Welcome to With Love & Whimsy!

December 10, 2012

Welcome to the more personal side of With Love & Whimsy – the blog!

First things first – let me properly introduce myself. The short version:

Janelle MillerThat’s me (Janelle), I live in a small suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, and I’m obsessed with making stuff.

Okay, I guess that wasn’t exactly what you would call a “proper” introduction. But the long version? Well, I REALLY like to talk and share things about myself and what I think, so if I give you the long version right off the bat, I might run the risk of going totally overboard. If you stick around, I can guarantee that you’ll get to know me pretty quickly. So – stick around!

I’ve had a bit of a blog obsession for more years than I’d like to admit, and I’ve talked myself out of starting one for just as long. But I’ve realized lately that I’m really craving that connection with other like-minded people that is sometimes hard to find when you’re limited to the physical space where you live. So to the interwebs, I go. Not to mention the fact that I’m finally chasing my dream of launching a creative business. I figure – what better time than now?

I come from a long line of creative women, and my creative passion is one of my most favorite things that has been passed down to me. Ever since I can remember, I’ve had a love affair with creating things. School projects, homemade Christmas presents, weird food experiments – if I could make it, I did. And I was happy. I took any creative class I could find, from pottery to drawing storyboards to 3-D art. The only thing I ever wanted to be was an artist, and I was sticking to it. I wandered off that path a bit for a few years, wanting to work in retail, then maybe accounting, and finally found myself in a series of office jobs. But all the while, I craved that happiness I found when I was creating. After spending the better part of 2011 building my entire wedding from the ground up, it was then that I realized that I had found my calling. I loved the process of collecting ideas and creating a vision, spending countless hours at night working on decor projects, and finally putting it all together in what ended up being an extremely personal and unique representation of my relationship with my husband and our story. I’ve realized that not only does creating things in this capacity make me happy, but so does using that creativity to make a difference and a lasting impression in other people’s lives. (Hey, look – you got a little glimpse of the long version!)

I may be a creative wedding stylist, but that doesn’t mean you’re not welcome here if you aren’t getting married or looking for a DIY project to do on a lazy Saturday afternoon. While this blog will mainly be a place where creativity and weddings collide, if you’re not in the market for anything wedding-related, fear not. I’ll also be using this space to occasionally talk about what’s going on in my neck of the woods – what I’m eating for dinner, my obsession with craft beer, my (hopefully) upcoming half-marathon training, this crazy journey of entrepreneurship that I’m embarking upon, the things I like to do in my spare time (what’s that?). So whether you’re a bride-to-be, a fellow creative person, a Clevelander, a foodie, a blog lover, or just someone that wants to hear what I’ve got to say – I’d love to have you around these parts.

Here’s to new adventures and sharing my passion with you. Glad to have you along for the ride!
